    Family Secrets

There some crimes for which there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for. This is the story of one of those crimes. A couple go missing in Memphis Tennessee. They are finally located in the attic of their uncles attic, dead. But before the police can capture the uncle, him and his Father both commit suicide before ever telling anyone the reasoning behind the killings, leaving a whole lot of questions with very few answers.

In a quiet Memphis neighborhood a young couple has gone missing. There names are Stephanie Grace Smith and James Smith. No one has seen or heard from them in a week. Family members can't get an answer from them at the couples home and fear the worst. The Smiths, Stephanie 21, and James 22, are newly weds married a little more than a year. They lived in Memphis and worked in Mississippi. Stephanie was well liked, came to work on time, and her employees liked her work so well they made her lead supervisor.

The Homicide team heads out to search the Smith home. Sgt. Mitch Oliver, a 22 year police veteran, is the lead investigator. They find absolutely nothing in the house that would lead them in any particular direction. So far this is a mystery. They canvass the neighborhood, starting next door. There is no answer at that house. Two hours later the Detectives find a woman who heard a disturbing noise the night the couple was last seen.

She says that the previous Thursday morning she was awakened by the sounds of a woman screaming. She says it was a loud scream and that something was wrong. She then shows the detectives the window from where she heard all the screams from. When they return back to the Homicide office Investigators run a background check on the couple. The Smith's bank gives them a lead. Stephanie Smith withdrew $5000 the day after the last day she was seen leaving work.

The bank also tells them she was with a white male with blond hair in his 30's. Sgt. Caroline Mason calls the Smith Family to see if they know who may have been with Stephanie the night she withdrew the money. They only person the family can think of who fit's that description is a guy named Larry Mosley who is there Uncle by marriage. And Larry Mosley lives right next door to the Smiths. The Investigators look up Larry Mosley on their computer. He was born in 1977 and has blond hair.

Detective Mitch Oliver and Detective Robin Bass head out to find Larry Mosley at the office where he works as a handy man. Mosley is not in. Oliver talks to his employers. They tell Detective Oliver that he didn't come in at 10:00 AM and didn't call and that is just not like him at all. So the Employer called him at 10:20 and he quit over the phone. They all tell Detective that he was great guy and they trusted him with everything they had, even with all the keys that he was working jobs on.

He was so good that he got three raises in nine months he was so good. None of this is making any sense. Mosley was recently sitting in his truck in front of his apartment, next door to the Smiths. Detective Oliver and Detective Bass rush back to the Smiths neighborhood to look for Larry Mosley. They find his truck and in it they find some ominous looking items. A large roll of thick black plastic and some bar bell weights. The kind of things a person would use to dispose of a body.

The team of Investigators heads to Larry Mosley's apartment, right next door to the Smiths. Mosley isn't home. But Sgt. Tony Mullins smells the smell of death coming from Larry Mosley's bedroom. The team dons bio hazard suits to protect potential evidence. Sgt. Caroline Mason finds some cocaine in Larry Mosley's bedroom. Meanwhile, in Mosley's bedroom CSI makes a startling discovery. They bring in an illumilite to help detect traces of blood. The room immediately lights up like a Christmas tree.

Detective Oliver comments that whatever happened here it was bloody and it was bad. Detective Oliver and his team continue their search. They find an attic. In the attic, under some sheet rock and black plastic Detective Tony Mullins finds a body. They have to call the Memphis Fire department to remove a wall to get the bodies. They have no idea how Larry Mosley managed to get them in there but he certainly has a lot of questions to answer and they are eager to talk to him. But first things first.

Behind the wall they find two bodies, those of the missing couple. The first was tied with black coaxial cable. The second was wrapped up in black plastic and a white sheet. Right now no one knows for sure how they died but they all agree it was brutal. Now it is imperative to find Larry Mosley as they have a million and one questions that only he can provide. This event is a huge news event in Memphis. At 11 hours into the investigation Sgt Oliver gets an unexpected break. Larry's sister saw the case on the news and called in.

Detective Oliver asks where Larry was and she tells him that Larry is on the run with his Father in neighboring Mississippi. Sgt. Oliver alerts Mississippi police. She also tells them that Larry has a gun and that he is going to shoot somebody. They head out to look for Larry Mosley. 13 hours in and Sgt. Oliver gets disturbing news from Mississippi. After a police chase Larry Mosley's Father shot Larry in the head and then himself.

The next morning Sgt. Oliver heads down to Mississippi to get the story straight from the horses mouth. Lt. Cedric Davis said he and fellow officer tried to pull Larry and his Father over but they refused. Lt. Davis shows Sgt. Oliver the car where the shooting took place. There is a lot of blood in the car. 21 hours in and Sgt. Oliver's case has come to an end. Later Sgt. Oliver gets Stephanie and James Smith both died from blunt force trauma to the head. But there are so many unanswered questions.

The most unfathomable and haunting is why did Larry Mosley do this unthinkable crime? He did not have a violent past and had a good upbringing. Maybe the drugs had something to do with it but it is all speculation at this point. But the other haunting question is how did he get the bodies into that attic and did he have help? Investigators will never know now and it remains to this day a mystery.
