Do Not Talk To The Cops

Should you ever find yourself in a Police station being questioned by Police with regard to a crime that has been committed, any crime that has been committed, DO NOT TALK TO THE COPS!!! It is amazing to me that people when being questioned by the Police think they can talk their way out of anything. The absolute first thing out of your mouth is "I want an Attorney" and that should be the only thing out of your mouth.

Most people don't realize that they do not have to speak to the cops or even go downtown with them. That is your constitutional right. Use it. Once you engage in dialoge with the cops they can use all kinds of tricks and deception to get you to confess weather you committed the crime or not. For example one comman ploy the cops use is to tell the potential suspect that he/she can go home if you just tell them what they want to hear. This is not just an opinion, it is fact which has been born out time and time again by all the folk who have been exonerated by the Innocence project.

The Innocence project is a Law firm ran by Attorney Barry Sheck who takes on cases pro bono where he believes people have been wrongly convicted for something they didn't do. Usually it is DNA they frees the exonerated. But do you think the cops are going to look at the evidence once a confession has been obtained? Absolutely not. Once you talk, no matter what you say as it will all be held against you, and they get you to confess the case is closed and the perpetrator goes to jail, goodby end of story.

Another comman tactic used by the cops to get you to confess is to tell you that your fingerprints were found at the scene of the crime. Or that a witness saw you commit the crime. Neither of these statements are true but they will tell them to you in such a way as you will believe them. Since you figure you are caught weather you committed the crime or not, why not tell them what they want to hear so you can go home. No such luck pal, after you talk you are going straight to Jail.

If you don't believe me watch an episode of 48 Hours or The Best Defense on TV. Way more than half the time the bad guy gets caught it is because he couldn't keep his mouth shut when being interviewed by a wily Detective. They will say and do anything to get you to confess, weather you did anything wrong or not, just to close their case. Information is what cracks cases and if you keep your mouth shut the chance of you getting caught up in a mess are way less significant. Even if you give them information about someone else, you will still wind up in court having to testify.

And by the way you don't really need an Attorney, you can simply refuse to open your mouth but they won't leave you alone until you utter those magic words "I want an Attorney". Then, by law they have to leave you alone. The only thing the Attorney wil do for you is tell you not to talk to the cops, although any further questions the cops have have to go through him. You could have prevented all of this however by simply refusing to go downtown with the cops to begin with. No matter what they tell you, it is your constitutional right not to go downtown with them in the first place.. SO USE IT!!
